Wells Fargo Championship (Live Golf Channel) Tiger Woods disclosed Tuesday that he's suffering from minor knee and Achilles' injuries, taking him out of next week's Wells Fargo Championship in North Carolina. His availability for The Players Championship also may be in question.

Woods is suffering from a sprained left medial collateral ligament and sprained left Achilles' tendon, saying on his website that the injuries trace back to an awkward shot from atop pine straw during the third round of the Masters.

The winner of 14 majors went on to tie for fourth at Augusta National, taking a share of the Sunday lead with a front-nine 31 before leveling off to a closing 67. He wound up four shots behind champion Charl Schwartzel.

Woods jetted straight to Asia after the Masters for a series of clinics in China and South Korea, then had the knee checked out when pain persisted upon his return. Doctors have advised rest, cold-water therapy and soft-tissue treatment.

"I personally contacted [Wells Fargo] tournament officials and expressed my regret in not being able to play," Woods said in his announcement. "This is an outstanding event, but I must follow doctors' orders to get better."
The Players follows Quail Hollow on the schedule, set for May 12-15 at the TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach. Woods also was unable to complete that tournament last year, withdrawing midway through the final round with neck pain.

The former world No.1 still is seeking his first tournament win since the hiatus, a stretch that will approach 18 months by the time The Players tees off.
